Gurgaon Braces for Hot Weekend Despite Light Rain and Gusty Winds

Scorching Temperatures Persist

Gurgaon endured its hottest day of the season on Friday, May 16, 2025, as temperatures soared to 41.3°C, surpassing Thursday’s 40.4°C. Dry, warm winds offered little relief throughout the day. Although the sky turned partly cloudy in the afternoon and some areas experienced light rain, the precipitation was insufficient to significantly lower temperatures. A strong dust storm around 4:30 pm briefly reduced visibility and provided momentary respite from the heat.

Weather Forecast: Light Rain and Gusty Winds

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that similar weather patterns will continue over the weekend.Gusty winds and light rain are likely to persist into Saturday morning, with wind speeds expected to range between 30 and 40 km/h, temporarily reaching 50 km/h during thunderstorms. These conditions are attributed to an active upper air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and a trough extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to Bangladesh.

Air Quality and Health Advisory

Despite the anticipated weather changes, the IMD predicts that the Air Quality Index (AQI) will remain in the lower range of the “poor category” on May 17. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as staying indoors during dust storms and using air purifiers, to mitigate health risks associated with poor air quality.

Looking Ahead

Thunderstorm and lightning activity accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h are expected over parts of the state from Monday onwards. While these weather events may provide brief relief, temperatures are projected to remain high, and residents should prepare for continued hot conditions.
