Cycle tracks to green belts, Rs 34cr revamp for key Dwarka eway link

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to revamp a 3-kilometer stretch connecting the Dwarka Expressway to the master roads of Sectors 83, 84, and 36A, with an estimated budget of ₹34 crore. The detailed project report has been prepared, and the tendering process is expected to commence soon. Originally built by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) in 2010-11 as part of the Dwarka Expressway project, this road segment was excluded following a realignment in 2017. In March of the previous year, GMDA conducted repairs on the damaged section in preparation for the expressway’s inauguration. The upcoming renovation aims to strengthen the main carriageway and introduce infrastructure improvements, including drainage systems, footpaths, cycle tracks, and greenbelts, to enhance safety and connectivity. A senior GMDA official stated, “We are examining the DPR. Once we get the administrative approval for the same, we will start the tendering process. While we are maintaining the stretch through repairs, it needs to be reconstructed. Moreover, proper drainage connectivity will be established to address the issue of recurrent waterlogging, which further damages the road.” The plan also includes installing road safety features such as solar cat’s eyes, road markings, and signage. Local residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope for a permanent solution to the road’s recurring issues. Puran Singh, RWA president of SS Coralwood, noted that over 10,000 people from sectors 82, 83, and 84, as well as Sihi village, depend on this route for direct access to the Dwarka Expressway.

Gurgaon Flat Allotment Draw Under Scrutiny, DTCP Seeks HC Nod for Fresh Draw

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court to annul the previous draw for the 4S Aster Avenue 36 housing project in Sector 36, Gurgaon, and to seek approval for a fresh allotment process. The court is set to hear the case on April 1. Source Times of India 4S Developers Pvt Ltd was granted a license under the Affordable Housing Policy to develop this project on 1.5 acres of land. Applications for 708 flats were invited starting November 7, 2024, receiving 52,033 submissions. After disqualifying 447 applicants due to incomplete documentation, 51,586 valid applications remained. Source Times of India However, the e-draw conducted on January 27, 2025, experienced a technical glitch, considering only 2,200 applicants instead of the full list. Consequently, all 708 flats were allotted to individuals from Sohna, raising concerns about the draw’s fairness and transparency. Source Times of India In response to complaints, Senior Town Planner Renuka Singh reported the issue to Director Amit Khatri, who promptly suspended the allotment process and formed a three-member investigation committee led by Chief Town Planner (IT) BK Saini. The committee recommended canceling the flawed draw. Source Times of India Some successful applicants have challenged the cancellation in court. If the court denies DTCP’s request for a fresh draw, the existing 51,586 applicants will be considered in a redraw without inviting new applications. Source Times of India This incident has prompted the Haryana government to scrutinise the e-draw system’s integrity to ensure equitable distribution in affordable housing projects. Source Times of India

Gurgaon Braces for Hot Weekend Despite Light Rain and Gusty Winds

Scorching Temperatures Persist Gurgaon endured its hottest day of the season on Friday, May 16, 2025, as temperatures soared to 41.3°C, surpassing Thursday’s 40.4°C. Dry, warm winds offered little relief throughout the day. Although the sky turned partly cloudy in the afternoon and some areas experienced light rain, the precipitation was insufficient to significantly lower temperatures. A strong dust storm around 4:30 pm briefly reduced visibility and provided momentary respite from the heat.  Weather Forecast: Light Rain and Gusty Winds The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that similar weather patterns will continue over the weekend.Gusty winds and light rain are likely to persist into Saturday morning, with wind speeds expected to range between 30 and 40 km/h, temporarily reaching 50 km/h during thunderstorms. These conditions are attributed to an active upper air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and a trough extending from northwest Uttar Pradesh to Bangladesh.  Air Quality and Health Advisory Despite the anticipated weather changes, the IMD predicts that the Air Quality Index (AQI) will remain in the lower range of the “poor category” on May 17. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, such as staying indoors during dust storms and using air purifiers, to mitigate health risks associated with poor air quality.  Looking Ahead Thunderstorm and lightning activity accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h are expected over parts of the state from Monday onwards. While these weather events may provide brief relief, temperatures are projected to remain high, and residents should prepare for continued hot conditions.
